Sigmund Brouwer is one of my favorite authors because he creates believable characters and good guys that you enjoy rooting for. This is historical/western fiction set in the Wyoming Territory in the 1800's, bringing that time to life for the reader with vivid descriptions of little dusty towns, majestic wilderness, the struggle between western settlers and Native Americans, and the ever present struggle of good people to do the right thing when it would be easier to look the other way. This is the first book in the Sam Keaton: Legends of Laramie and I thoroughly enjoyed all 4 books in this series.

Great combination of Western / Values / Wit. page-turner. Could not put it down from page one!!
Awesome story and writing.
My husband and I both read the book and we both loved it. We will be continuing on with the series... Cant wait to see what happens to Samuel Keaton and his irksome Indian next!
Who would think you could enjoy reading a Western in the 21st century. Really good book without explicit language or inappropriate scenes, yet adult in character.
This book was bought as a replacement for a lost volume in the Church library. I had been out for a while and when the "new" first volume was replaced by this book, a friend checked it out and read the entire book.
If this is a digital edition of Bethany House's publication, they should be embarrassed by their editing. The story is filled with errors that a good proofreading would have caught. The western is OK, but it could have been good had there been some attention to the details that a reader expects of a professional publisher.
Excellent series by a very good writer
Sigmund Brouwer is one of my favorite authors. He writes very believable and entertaining stories. Dialogue that is true and fitting. Heroes that are flawed but easy to root for and enjoy getting to know. This series and the Nick Barrett series are excellent reading.
